Photography: Which lens to use for what
Hey guys, since I receive quite a lot of questions from you about the Olympus PEN camera I'm using I thought it would be cool to write some of my tips down. I think that one of the trickiest things when it comes to photography is picking the right lens - some are super zoomed in, others have a wide angle, some can do both at the same time.. I usually prefer working with prime lenses but sometimes a zoom is very practical, if you're visiting a city for example - it will prevent you from having to carry many different lenses with you. So without further ado - here are the three different Olympus lenses I use with my PEN:
45 mm 1.8 (prime lens)
This one is perfect for outfit pictures and portraits (see examples above). It's the best one you can use to create these super pretty blurry backgrounds, with the famous bokeh effect. Since it is quite zoomed in it also gives your pictures a cool streetstyle vibe :) it's the lens we use for shooting my outfits, remember about these that I wore in Berlin?
17 mm 1.8 (prime lens)
This lens is really cool for flatlays, food pictures and landscapes (examples above once again). The wide angle makes it easier to capture pictures from above (flatlays) without having to stand on a chair above your table ;) same goes for food - this lens will make the process of capturing your meal much easier! And the wide aperture is really cool if you wanna take quality pictures in low light (at night for example, think concert or fun night out with your friends).
14-42 mm 3.5 - 5.6 (the one that comes with the camera)
I personally think that this lens is really cool for filming. I film my vlogs with it - the autofocus is really fast, the zoom gives you more freedom when you're filming (see that little bird on the top of that tree), plus this lens is the most compact and light one I own. Often when we're traveling we'll just take that one with us, as it is more flexible.
So that's it guys - I hope this was helpful for some of you! Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions about the PEN and talk soon! xx
